If you have been slacking on your ab workouts, a new Guinness World record for longest plank may inspire you.
Daniel Scali of Australia shattered the previous record for longest plank after holding the position for 9 hours, 30 minutes and 1 second, according to Guinness World Records.
Scali broke the record on Aug. 6 while also suffering from complex regional pain syndrome, a syndrome that causes his left arm to be in constant pain.
“It’s the brain sending wrong messages to my arm, which is the affected area. So anything like soft touch, movement, wind, water, will cause me pain,” Scali told Guinness.
Scali was diagnosed with the condition at 12-years-old after falling off of a trampoline and severely breaking his left arm, according to Guinness.
“The pain is still there,” he told CNN. “The pains aren’t changing but my attitude towards the pain changes.”
Even more incredible is this was his second attempt, according to CNN. His first was disqualified after he planked for 9 hours and 9 minutes and officials didn’t like his hip position.

In his second attempt, Scali wore a compression band on his left arm to alleviate as much pain as he could, but still suffered.
“Obviously putting constant pressure on my elbow and forearm, up to my shoulder did give me quite a bit of grief at the start,” Scali told Guinness.
After breaking the record, he said he was using this opportunity to raise awareness about CRPS. He had previously incorporated planking into his exercise regimen to manage his chronic pain.
“There’s always someone out there worse than yourself,” Scali told CNN.
“I wanted to show people that no matter what pain you deal with, no matter what issues you have, if you want to do it and you believe you can do it, then go for it.”
The previous record of 8 hours, 15 minutes and 15 seconds was held by a then 62-year-old former U.S. Marine.
