If you want to see progress in your training, building consistency is critical. Sometimes, that means putting in the work when you don’t feel like it. And everybody has their days when they’re really not in the mood to work out—even screen legends like Sylvester Stallone. In his latest Instagram post, the Rocky and Rambo star showed off his bicep pump from his latest workout, and shared his thoughts on the importance of pushing through to get the results you want.
“Went to the damn gym today when I didn’t want to,” he wrote. “But, Doing things when you do NOT want to, I found an extremely important key to success.”
Embracing that discomfort has clearly worked for Stallone, as his five-decade-spanning career as an underdog-turned-action-hero demonstrates. He’s spoken before about the intense training he underwent when filming First Blood, not to mention his unconventional Rocky diet, and he is far from finished, confirming in the same post that he is training for a new movie: “I have to get ready to start doing some old school ACTION!”
This isn’t the first hint Stallone has dropped that he’s getting ready for a new movie; he has been throwing himself into some grueling gym sessions with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson. In fact, Peterson was among the followers cheering Stallone in the comments of his arm day photo, along with Athlean-X founder Jeff Cavaliere, and fellow action movie star The Rock, who said: “That PEAK tells a LOT of stories, brother.”

Elsewhere in the comments, a number of fans expressed their hope that Stallone might soon be reuniting with Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham and Arnold Schwarzenegger, and that his rigorous new training regime is in preparation for The Expendables 4. The third movie came out in 2014, and Stallone later dropped out of the franchise. The characters’ stories have since continued in comic book form, and rumors now abound that a fourth installment is being written.
