1. Focusing Only On Biceps

Everyone loves that bicep pump, but will focusing only on biceps make your arms grow bigger? The answer is a resounding ‘NO’. When it comes to your arm’s musculature, the triceps make up almost 70% of the muscle mass. The remaining 30% is built by biceps. Naturally, if you want bigger arms, the focus should be more on triceps than on biceps.

Muscle doesn’t grow during exercise, but breaks down instead. Muscle repairs and grows in size during rest. Hence, overtraining without enough rest can be a big reason why your arms aren’t growing bigger and stronger.

Even though popular belief states ‘the heavier you lift, the bigger you get’, that’s not entirely true. Ego lifting with wrong posture, while using swinging motions and the body’s momentum, will take you nowhere. The muscle fibres need to be engaged with careful voluntary targeting, failing which you will never be able to grow your arms.

4. Improper Nutrition

Even if you’re killing it in the gym, the arm muscles will only grow when your nutrition is on point. To begin with, you need to have 1.6-2.2 gm of protein per kg of your body weight. Plus, if specifically muscle building is the key (and not fat loss), going on a calorie surplus is more beneficial. Not focusing on nutrition can be lethal for your gains.

5. Curling/Lifting Too Fast

Sometimes, when the weight is too much, one tends to do super fast curls for convenience – that coupled with body momentum, completely renders your workouts ineffective. Slower, targeted curls and lifts, while maintaining mind-muscle connection, are going to ensure that your arms grow faster.

6. Targeting Forearms/Shoulders Instead Of Arms

During multiple arm lifts, especially while training biceps, one tends to curl their forearms and lift using their shoulder and back strength in order to adjust heavy weights. That will only make you lift the weight, but will not contribute to targeted muscle growth. Postural corrections may be required if you’re suffering from that while training arms in the gym.
